The Coreloft synthetic insulation retains warmth when wet — a property that down lacks — making it reliable in conditions where a down layer would fail. The Tyono 20-denier face fabric is DWR-treated and resists light rain and snow without the bulk or noise of a hardshell.
The side panels use Polartec Power Stretch fleece for breathability during high-output activities, which is an engineering decision that separates this jacket from cheaper synthetic puffers that trap moisture. Arc'teryx manufactures the Atom LT in their own facilities and subjects every unit to quality control standards that the outdoor industry generally considers excessive.
The Bird Aid warranty program covers the jacket for life against defects, and Arc'teryx's repair program will fix zippers, patch fabric, and replace insulation at reasonable cost. At roughly $260, the Atom LT is a significant investment, but over a 10-year lifespan of daily cold-weather wear and weekend alpine use, the cost-per-year is $26.
That is less than the annual cost of cycling through $80 synthetic jackets that delaminate, lose loft, or fail at the seams after two seasons.
