The fabric is G-1000 HeavyDuty, a proprietary 65% polyester and 35% cotton blend that is inherently wind-resistant, quick-drying, and abrasion-resistant without relying on membrane coatings that degrade over time. The G-1000 fabric can be re-waxed with Fjallraven's Greenland Wax to restore water repellency, effectively allowing the owner to re-waterproof the pants indefinitely.
Reinforced knees and seat panels use double-layer G-1000 in the highest-wear zones, and the pre-shaped knees allow full range of motion during climbing and scrambling. At roughly $175, the Vidda Pro costs three to four times what cargo pants from a department store cost, but the cost-per-year over a ten-year lifespan works out to $17.
50 -- and they will likely last longer than that. Fjallraven offers repair services through their customer service program, and replacement G-1000 fabric panels are available for patching.
The fit runs slim by American standards, and the waist adjustment system uses buttons rather than a belt, which takes adjustment. For hikers and outdoors professionals who need trousers that perform in four seasons without replacement, the Vidda Pro is the Scandinavian standard.
