The upper is constructed from single-piece nubuck leather -- one continuous panel wrapped around the foot with minimal seams, eliminating the weak points where most hiking boots fail first. A GORE-TEX lining provides waterproof breathability, and the Vibram Tsavo outsole delivers aggressive traction on technical terrain while remaining resoleable through Hanwag's official resoling program.
The boot uses traditional board-lasted construction with a polyurethane midsole, providing the rigid support that heavy-pack hikers and mountaineers require on multi-day traverses. Hanwag offers resoling services directly, and several authorized cobblers across Europe and North America perform the work as well.
At roughly $320, the Tatra II costs more than most hiking boots on the wall at outdoor retailers, but the resoleable construction transforms the math: two or three resoling cycles at $80 each extend the boot's life to 15 or 20 years of active trail use. Hanwag's warranty covers manufacturing defects for two years, and the Vibram outsole is the only component that wears.
For hikers who measure boot life in thousands of trail miles, Hanwag is the brand that European alpinists have trusted for a century.
