The fabric is 100 percent virgin worsted wool woven at Pendleton's own mills in Washington and Oregon, giving the company vertical control over quality from raw fiber to finished garment. Wool's natural properties do most of the work: it resists wrinkles, sheds odors, regulates temperature across a surprisingly wide range, and the tight weave sheds light rain without a membrane or chemical treatment.
The urea buttons, locker loop, and straight-bottom hem are details that have not changed because they did not need to. At approximately $150, the Board Shirt costs three to four times what a fast-fashion flannel commands, but wool's durability advantage over cotton is not subtle — with proper care (cold wash, lay flat to dry), the Board Shirt delivers 15 to 20 years of regular wear.
That is roughly $8 to $10 per year. The plaid patterns are woven, not printed, meaning the colors cannot fade or peel in the way printed cotton does.
A Pendleton Board Shirt from the 1960s looks remarkably similar to one made today, which is the entire point.
