The 15-ounce right-hand twill fabric is woven on vintage Toyoda shuttle looms that produce an irregular, textured denim with character that modern projectile looms cannot replicate. The straight-leg silhouette is the classic American five-pocket pattern executed with Japanese precision: hidden rivets, reinforced pocket bags, chain-stitched hems, and copper hardware that patinas alongside the indigo.
The denim develops dramatic high-contrast fading over 12 to 18 months of regular wear — honeycombs, whiskers, and stacking marks that document the wearer's body mechanics. At roughly $250, the SD-108 occupies the heart of Japanese heritage denim: more affordable than cult brands, more carefully constructed than mainstream premium denim.
The straight-leg fit transcends fashion cycles, making it immune to the skinny-to-wide pendulum that forces trend-conscious denim into early retirement. Darning and repair services extend the lifespan well past a decade.
Studio D'Artisan does not chase trends. They started one and never stopped.
