The upper is cut from Horween Chromexcel leather, a pull-up leather tanned in Chicago that is prized for its suppleness, depth of color, and ability to develop rich character with wear. The Goodyear welt construction allows for resoling, and the stacked leather heel and Vibram outsole provide a refined profile suitable for both workwear and dress-casual contexts.

The leather sole wears faster than rubber alternatives on concrete, which is the boot's primary trade-off for its dressier appearance. At approximately $350, the 1000 Mile occupies the space between work boot and heritage fashion boot, and it performs well in both roles.

Wolverine provides a limited warranty against defects, and any competent cobbler can resole the Goodyear-welted construction. The Horween leather is the star — it ages beautifully, responds well to conditioning, and develops a patina that makes each pair unique after a year of wear.
