The Arctic Down Parka descends from the original Arctic Parka that Woolrich designed for workers on the Trans-Alaska Pipeline in the 1970s — a garment engineered for sustained outdoor work in minus 40 degree conditions. The modern version retains the functional DNA: 650-fill duck down insulation, a water-resistant cotton-nylon blend shell, and a coyote fur-trimmed hood that creates a microclimate of still air around the face.

The construction uses double-needle stitching at stress points, heavy-duty YKK zippers with storm flaps, and internal draft tubes that prevent cold air penetration through the zipper line. Woolrich backs the parka with a two-year warranty covering manufacturing defects, and the construction is repairable — zippers, snaps, and down baffles can all be serviced by a qualified outerwear repair shop.

At $550, the Arctic Down Parka costs roughly what three mid-tier winter coats cost over the same 15-year period, while providing warmth ratings that those coats cannot approach. Woolrich parkas from the 1980s still appear in functional condition at vintage shops and estate sales.

The Arctic Parka is outerwear that was designed for survival, not fashion seasons.
