Chrome Industries Barrage Cargo Backpack 22L

CERTIFIED tier

Chrome Industries has been building bags for bike messengers since 1995, and the Barrage Cargo is the distillation of three decades of urban abuse testing.

Origin

Made in USA

Warranty

Lifetime warranty on all Chrome bags covering defects in materials and workmanship. No registration required. Chrome sells replacement buckles, straps, and hardware directly for owner-serviceable repairs.

Price

~$180 (Mid)

The shell is 1050-denier recycled nylon — the same weight class used in military duffels — wrapped around a fully welded 500D TPE waterproof liner that Chrome calls a floating bucket. No seam tape.

No DWR coating to reapply. Welded seams, period.

The lifetime warranty requires no registration for bags, and Chrome sells replacement buckles and hardware directly, making this one of the few waterproof packs designed to be maintained rather than discarded. At $180, the math is straightforward: replace a $60 water-resistant backpack every three years, or buy the Barrage once and ride it for a decade or more.

Multiple owners report ten-plus years of daily messenger use with cosmetic wear only. The rolltop design adds structural simplicity — fewer zippers mean fewer failure points.

The Barrage Cargo earns its place here because it treats waterproofing as engineering, not marketing.
