The blade is CPM 20CV steel, a premium chromium-vanadium powder metallurgy steel that holds an edge substantially longer than conventional stainless while maintaining excellent corrosion resistance. The titanium frame lock and stainless steel lockbar insert provide a lockup mechanism that has been tested under conditions far beyond what any civilian EDC will encounter.
The tri-way pivot system allows the user to switch between bearings, phosphor bronze washers, and Teflon washers to tune the action for preference and environment. At roughly $425, this is premium territory.
But the XM-18 holds resale value exceptionally well -- used examples frequently sell for eighty to ninety percent of retail, which means the true cost of ownership is remarkably low. Hinderer provides a limited lifetime warranty and performs factory service including blade sharpening and pivot tuning.
The knife is manufactured in Shreve, Ohio, and Hinderer maintains full parts availability for scales, hardware, and pivot components. The XM-18 is a working tool with the build quality of a precision instrument.
