The blade options include M390, CTS-204P, and Bohler M390 -- all premium steels that maintain edge retention significantly longer than standard production knife steels. The double-action firing mechanism deploys and retracts the blade via a single slide switch on the handle, and Microtech machines the internal action components from hardened steel with tolerances tight enough that the mechanism rarely fails under normal use.

The anodized 6061-T6 aluminum handle resists corrosion and impact damage. At approximately $280, the Ultratech occupies a niche between production and custom knives.

Microtech provides a limited lifetime warranty and operates a factory service program where knives can be returned for cleaning, sharpening, and action tune-ups. The OTF mechanism is inherently more complex than a standard folder, which introduces more potential failure points over decades of use.

However, Microtech's service program mitigates this effectively. Blade play is minimal out of the box and can be corrected through factory service.

Legal restrictions on automatic knives vary by jurisdiction. Where legal, the Ultratech is a precisely engineered daily tool.
