The body is injection-molded polypropylene copolymer, a material that is virtually indestructible under normal conditions and tested to MIL-STD-810 standards. The double-throw latches lock with a satisfying mechanical precision, and the O-ring seal makes the case IP67 waterproof and dustproof.
The stainless steel hinge pins and polymer wheels are overbuilt to a degree that seems almost excessive for civilian travel, until the case survives its first encounter with an airline baggage handler. Pelican's warranty is lifetime and unconditional: the company will replace any case that breaks under normal use, and sells every component from replacement latches to wheels to handles as individual parts.
