The 750-pound cast iron bed doesn't dance when a 50-pound blank goes out of round at 500 RPM. The 2HP motor feeds electronically variable speed from 15 to 4,000 RPM without belt changes.
The sliding headstock moves the whole spindle out of the way for bowl work; the digital indexing readout snaps to 24 fixed positions for fluting. Parts for 3520As from the early 2000s are still stocked by Powermatic's US service network, and the five-year warranty is backed by a domestic service network rather than a phone tree.
At $5,999, that's roughly $300 a year spread across the 20-year lifespan owners routinely report on the A and B predecessors — a cost floor no hobby-grade lathe can touch over the same horizon. This is the lathe professional turners buy once.
