Produced in Arita, Japan — a region with over 400 years of porcelain-making tradition — the ceramic dripper has no moving parts, no electronics, and nothing to break under normal use. The spiral ribs and large center hole give the brewer its distinctive pour control, allowing users to adjust extraction by changing pour speed rather than relying on a machine's fixed parameters.
The ceramic body retains heat far better than plastic or glass alternatives, maintaining brew temperature stability throughout the draw-down. At roughly $25, the cost-per-year math is almost absurd: even over a conservative 15-year lifespan, that works out to under $1.
70 annually for a brewing method preferred by specialty coffee professionals worldwide. The only realistic failure mode is dropping it on a hard floor, which is an operator error, not a product defect.
Hario has been making laboratory and coffee glassware since 1921. The V60 is their most recognized design, and for good reason — it does one thing, and it does it permanently.
