The ESEE 4 features a 4. 5-inch blade made from 1095 high-carbon steel, heat-treated to 55-57 HRC for a balance of edge retention and field sharpenability.
The full-tang construction runs the entire length of the handle, and the Micarta scales are secured with screws rather than pins, making handle replacement straightforward. The blade coating resists corrosion, though 1095 steel demands more maintenance than stainless alternatives — a trade-off ESEE makes deliberately for superior toughness.
