KEF LS50 Meta Bookshelf Speakers (Pair)
CERTIFIED tier
KEF has built the LS50 platform on a single idea held stable for over a decade: the original LS50 stayed in production essentially unchanged from 2012 to 2021 because KEF concluded the cabinet could not be improved.
Origin
Made in China
Warranty
5-year limited warranty on passive drivers and speaker components (2 years on any electronics), extendable by one year with myKEF registration; non-transferable and terminates on resale unless the paid KEF Warranty+ plan is purchased within 30 days. Warranty override applied: a fully passive, battery-free design with complete Uni-Q driver assemblies sold as spare parts, an authorized third-party repair network, and a 12+ year platform lineage -- consistent with the site's treatment of proven-BIFL items whose formal warranty term understates real serviceable lifespan.

The Meta refines it rather than replacing it. Each speaker centers on a 12th-generation Uni-Q coaxial driver -- a 25mm aluminum dome tweeter nested inside a 130mm aluminum midbass cone -- backed by Metamaterial Absorption Technology, a labyrinth disc that absorbs 99% of the tweeter's rear energy.
The design is fully passive: no amplifier, no DAC, no battery, nothing to obsolete. Rubber surrounds sidestep the foam-rot that kills older speakers, and KEF sells complete Uni-Q driver assemblies as spare parts, with authorized rebuilders like The Speaker Exchange stocking OEM components.
The passive-component warranty runs five years. At $1,599 a pair this is not a value play -- the aluminum cone can crack under a clipping amplifier, and KEF's claim handling on that has been inconsistent -- but driven within its limits and fed a competent amp, it is a speaker bought once and handed down.
