0 double-rail magnetic switches and a TMR sensor stack — eliminating the metal-on-metal wear that creates double-click failures in conventional keyboards over time. The 6063 aluminum chassis weighs over four pounds and absorbs typing impact like a slab.
The double-gasket mount, PBT keycaps, and full QMK and VIA firmware support put the Q1 HE in the same league as custom builds that retail for twice the price. The hot-swappable PCB accepts any compatible magnetic switch, so future-proofing is mechanical, not financial.
Keychron sells PCBs, plates, gaskets, knobs, and case parts directly — every component is replaceable. The 12-month manufacturer warranty is brief by BIFL standards, but the design compensates: no soldered switches to fail, no mystery firmware to brick.
At $200 to $220, the Q1 HE costs less than a single replacement cycle of the cheap membrane keyboards most desks go through every two or three years. Magnetic switches are newer technology, but the underlying mechanism is simpler than spring-and-leaf mechanical contacts and produces no contact-bounce wear pattern.
The Q1 HE is built to be rebuilt.
