Fluke has manufactured precision test equipment in Everett, Washington since 1948, and the 87-series lineage began in 1988 with credentials no consumer-grade meter has ever matched: 0. 05% DC voltage accuracy, true-RMS measurement across both clean and distorted waveforms, a low-pass filter that lets the meter read variable frequency drives where other meters return noise, and CAT III 1000V / CAT IV 600V safety certification.
Industrial electricians report units purchased twelve to fifteen years ago still passing factory calibration without adjustment. The shock-absorbing molded case, replaceable test leads, user-serviceable fuses and battery compartment, and full Fluke factory recalibration network mean the meter is built to be kept, not replaced.
