The 6-piece bench chisel set spans 6mm to 26mm and uses chrome-vanadium steel hardened to 61 HRC — hard enough to hold an edge through demanding joinery but not so hard that it chips on cross-grain work. Each blade is drop-forged, ground, and hand-honed in Germany.
The hornbeam handles are turned from air-dried stock and fitted with steel ferrules and striking caps, meaning they absorb mallet blows without splitting or mushrooming. Unlike injection-molded plastic-handle chisels that crack and loosen after a few years, hornbeam gets tighter with use.
The blades can be resharpened hundreds of times over a lifetime, and replacement handles are available if the originals ever do fail. Professional furniture makers and timber framers report decades of daily use from Two Cherries steel.
At roughly $90 for six chisels, the per-tool cost is modest for German-forged steel that will outlast the woodworker using it. These chisels are working tools, not showpieces, and they perform accordingly.
